Some final words about my Web designing Class

* Reflect on what you have learned in this class and how this will help you in the future

I go back to week one and how overwhelm I felt after reviewing all the things that were required to complete the course. When I read about HTML and Photo Shop, plus Web 2.0, Blogging and so on.

The first thing I learned was the big difference that exist from print media and web media. A photo on a magazine has to be changed completely to make it look just as good online because monitors use resolutions to describe the amount of pixels it displays, while a printer use dpi, or dots per inch to measure.

Another important designing term I learn is C.R.A.P., which is Contrast(it's what draws your eye into a page, it pulls you in), Repetition(this concept means that throughout a project you repeat certain elements that tie all the disparate parts together), Alignment(it means that items on the page are lined up with each other) and Proximity (Refers to the relationships that items develop when they are close together, in close proximity)

I was able to learn the definition of many tech terms I was not aware of, now I can sound smart when I talk about technology. I leaned about Web 2.0 and how much different it is to the older web version. Web 2.0 allows for more personal contact online through social networks and so forth.

* Compare/Contrast the 2 websites. How are they different and how are they the same? What adjustments did you have to make from the first to the second site?
The two websites I created in the class look different in appearance but the content is somewhat similar.
Front page website pretty much reminds me of how websites used to look years ago. Although the web page provides the information for the visitors, but the format is old and genetic. Web 2.0 website provides more colors, the templates are more up to date and the many gadgets are provided, giving more options for the web page design.

Web 2.0 web page was harder to build than Frontpage because front page has imitations that I know about. I worked the tables and add pictures and contents. With Web 2.0 the layout is given and all I had to do was learn to change what I am able to, so I can input the information I want in the website.

The Web Page on Web 2.0 looks more professional, more up to date and it gives more options to add to enable the page visitors to access the information easier.

* How did your final projects differ from your initial storyboards?
It was very nice to see how something I start by writing a storyboard, ended looking very presentable. The storyboard helped put my thoughts into something visual, then I used it to put both websites together. In the end, the webpages look different from my original storyboard, but the final product made the initial storyboard project a success.

Weekly Reading for week 6

Summarize and reflect on what you have read
Chapter 13
Chapter 13, gives some a advanced tips and tricks to help a new beginners are working with design.

One of the tips is on tables and how we can do a lot more than just put the text in columns like samples are ways to put pictures, sidebar design, etc.

Other useful tips in this chapter are how to prepare for grabs as JPEG and adjust the saturation or the shadow areas, or even how to apply some sharpening. District can help the image look much better and gave the website visitor a nice visual and at the same time he or she would want to visit the website again.

Another useful idea that this chapter suggests is how to set up headlines and sub headlines into smaller, good-looking graphics.

To use a large graphic on the page that may take a while to download the chapter teaches a way that you can use to create a low quality image and how to make a new by itself.
Another tips to help create good and easy to use websites is by using the slicing graphics tool. This option can be done by slicing graphics into separate pieces into cells of the table to hold the image together as a single image.

in this section of quick photoshop tips the book teaches on ways lack transparent pixels, rollover and image swaps, the true Web forms and flash animations

1 What is the purpose of using storyboards? How will they help you with your final project?

the purpose of using a storyboard is to put together a plan to create a website.
There are four basic elements that are part of a website Storyboad:

1. Planning
2. Organization
3. Contents
4. The Flow Chart

# Tell me about your website. What is the title. What content will be there. How did you choose this topic? Where will you get your images? Do you have an HTML editor at home or will you use FrontPage?

I decided to create a much better and informative website for my real estate business. The topic is that I'm a dedicated real estate agent who works to meet his client's real estate goals.
The images I will be using are from the Century 21 Logo, some of my pictures and I will use Frontpage to create it.

Today, my website is just a subpage of my company's website, but when I finish, I will have a 4 page website that will list my services for buyer, Sellers and recruit people to come work for my office. So don't miss the improve version of my website www.alexcolon.com coming to you in the very near future.

weekly reading summary

• Summarize and reflect on what you have read
The article “How web pages work”, talks about how easy is to create a website. They write indicates that there are four basic things to know when creating a website:
1. Web page, which is a simple text file that contains not only text, but also a set of HTML tags that describe how the text should be formatted.
2. HTML which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language
3. Webbrowser, which is how a web page is viewed, sample of web browser: Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer.
4. Web Server which is where webpages are requested from. This network machine host pages.
Any Web page you create will contain the following tags at the start of the page:
 : tells the Web browser that this is the beginning of an HTML document
 : tells that Web browser that this is the header for the page (you'll learn later what goes between "HEAD" tags)
: tells the Web browser that this is the title of the page <br /> <BODY>: tells the Web browser that this is the beginning of the Web page content -- everything you want to say and see on your page will follow this tag. <br />This information is typed using a program named Notepad on windows or on a Macintosh, this program is called SimpleText <br /> <br />The article goes on to show what I consider a review of what we have learned in class about using HTML codes to create a web page. <br /> <br />I read the other articles, but the one that most caught my attention was the “How to make a website of your Own” <br />She really broke it down, and even compare the options of either paying or DIY. Paying to have a website built for you can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000. DIY will cost you lots of time. <br /> <br /> <br />• Computers and software have enabled individuals to become one-person operations with an internet connection and a laptop. The same is true with website design. Anyone with a computer can create a website. Is this always a good thing? Explain your thoughts. <br />I don’t think that building a website yourself is a good thought. To build a very good website, the person must be dedicated, understand the principles of creating a successful website, otherwise the website will never attract visitors and it will sit online with very little interest from internet users. <br /> <br />• What are some of the advantages to creating your own website rather than hiring a professional? What are some of the drawbacks? <br /> <br />The advantages are that you can really have access to the page(s) and can pretty much update the pages whenever you want right away. If you are able to build your own website and follow the guidelines, ideas and suggestions to do it right, it can be something that can give you an opportunity to learn and create even more websites in the future. <br /> <br />When you hire a professional, not only will it cost hundreds of dollars, there’s always the continuous monthly expense to maintain the website, something you won’t need if you build it yourself. The only benefit of having a profession is that your website will be up and running sooner and you’ll have a professional available to help with any technical problems. <br /> <br />• What is the difference between Usability and Accessibility with regards to web design and why are both important? <br />When I use the term “usability” on this site, I mean design for usability – designing to make stuff easier to use. While accessibility refers to if the webpage is built in such a way that will allow people with disability to have easy access to the web page. Both are very important to help bring people to the webpage and keep them coming back. <br /> <div style='clear: both;'></div> </div> <div class='post-footer'> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'> <span class='post-author vcard'> Posted by <span class='fn' itemprop='author' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/Person'> <meta content='https://draft.blogger.com/profile/01772892997283924299' itemprop='url'/> <a class='g-profile' href='https://draft.blogger.com/profile/01772892997283924299' rel='author' title='author profile'> <span itemprop='name'>Alex Colon</span> </a> </span> </span> <span class='post-timestamp'> at <meta content='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/07/weekly-reading-summary.html' itemprop='url'/> <a class='timestamp-link' href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/07/weekly-reading-summary.html' rel='bookmark' title='permanent link'><abbr class='published' itemprop='datePublished' title='2010-07-05T03:01:00-07:00'>3:01 AM</abbr></a> </span> <span class='post-comment-link'> <a class='comment-link' href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/07/weekly-reading-summary.html#comment-form' onclick=''> No comments: </a> </span> <span class='post-icons'> <span class='item-control blog-admin pid-878997978'> <a href='https://draft.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=1129555377859818339&postID=2076458773975399517&from=pencil' title='Edit Post'> <img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='https://resources.blogblog.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/> </a> </span> </span> <div class='post-share-buttons goog-inline-block'> </div> </div> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-2'> <span class='post-labels'> </span> </div> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-3'> <span class='post-location'> </span> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div></div> <div class="date-outer"> <h2 class='date-header'><span>Monday, June 28, 2010</span></h2> <div class="date-posts"> <div class='post-outer'> <div class='post hentry uncustomized-post-template' itemprop='blogPost' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/BlogPosting'> <meta content='1129555377859818339' itemprop='blogId'/> <meta content='5121857938521015363' itemprop='postId'/> <a name='5121857938521015363'></a> <h3 class='post-title entry-title' itemprop='name'> <a href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/reflecting-on-week-4-reading.html'>Reflecting on Week 4 reading</a> </h3> <div class='post-header'> <div class='post-header-line-1'></div> </div> <div class='post-body entry-content' id='post-body-5121857938521015363' itemprop='description articleBody'> Chapter three gives an inside about what web pages are. Web page are pages of tex with coded messages that tell a browser what to do. This code is called HTML or hypertext markup language.<br />One can write the codes to create a pge, but there are many web software packages that let you create a web page as easily as you make a word processing page.<br />The chapter gives nine easy steps how to make a webpage and five steps to use to select the best text format.<br />To hit Return or Enter at the end of a line, most software will issue a "Paragraph" command and it makes a space between the lines. If you don't want the space between the lines, use the "Break" code. The chapter also shows how to change the color of the background, create links, internal and external and email links.<br /><br />To make an internal, or local, link, one first have to have another page to link to. to add graphics, graphics must be in website format to be able to look good.<br /><br />The use of layers is a very popular and powerful way to creat style sheets for text. Frames are very different from tables, although at first glance they might seem similar because frames can make it appear as if there are columns on the web page. Frames are tricky and have to be done thoughtfully and correctly.<br /><br />Chapter four shows the first things that are needed to create a good website. First, organizing files by folders, name your files. It's recommended to use all lowercase letters, don't use funny character, and use _ or - to name ur file and use no space and keep file names as short as possible.<br /><br />A server is a juiced-up computer that is connected to the internet 24 hours a day. it has special software on it that allows web pages to be "served" to the Internet whenever anyone types in the web addresses. When the web site is finished, someone has to server or host the site for a price. For people to find the web site, they use a address or domain name.<br /><br />Plan ahead by making an outline before beginning to create the website, ask yourself, who's my web audience, prepare all needed material and information that will be part of the web site. <div style='clear: both;'></div> </div> <div class='post-footer'> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'> <span class='post-author vcard'> Posted by <span class='fn' itemprop='author' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/Person'> <meta content='https://draft.blogger.com/profile/01772892997283924299' itemprop='url'/> <a class='g-profile' href='https://draft.blogger.com/profile/01772892997283924299' rel='author' title='author profile'> <span itemprop='name'>Alex Colon</span> </a> </span> </span> <span class='post-timestamp'> at <meta content='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/reflecting-on-week-4-reading.html' itemprop='url'/> <a class='timestamp-link' href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/reflecting-on-week-4-reading.html' rel='bookmark' title='permanent link'><abbr class='published' itemprop='datePublished' title='2010-06-28T22:31:00-07:00'>10:31 PM</abbr></a> </span> <span class='post-comment-link'> <a class='comment-link' href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/reflecting-on-week-4-reading.html#comment-form' onclick=''> No comments: </a> </span> <span class='post-icons'> <span class='item-control blog-admin pid-878997978'> <a href='https://draft.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=1129555377859818339&postID=5121857938521015363&from=pencil' title='Edit Post'> <img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='https://resources.blogblog.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/> </a> </span> </span> <div class='post-share-buttons goog-inline-block'> </div> </div> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-2'> <span class='post-labels'> </span> </div> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-3'> <span class='post-location'> </span> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class='post-outer'> <div class='post hentry uncustomized-post-template' itemprop='blogPost' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/BlogPosting'> <meta content='1129555377859818339' itemprop='blogId'/> <meta content='8851565092333454529' itemprop='postId'/> <a name='8851565092333454529'></a> <h3 class='post-title entry-title' itemprop='name'> <a href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/week-3-web-design-readings.html'>Week 3 Web Design Readings</a> </h3> <div class='post-header'> <div class='post-header-line-1'></div> </div> <div class='post-body entry-content' id='post-body-8851565092333454529' itemprop='description articleBody'> <p>This week I was able to read both Chapter 7 Chapter 8. Chapter 7 talks about interface and navigation.</p><p>The interface design it's what's going to make the website visually interesting or ugly, enjoyable or irritating to viewers to move around. Interface refers to how the pages look, and also how the pages work and interact with the viewer. I found it interesting that a browser's interface design it's the one feature that makes people prefer one browser over another. Another interesting aspect of web designing is at the navigation design, which is the way people get around your site and understand where to go. </p><p>To create a good web design, the designer has to have a good plan. First, the designer should make a list of the information to be included on the site. Second, make an outline based on the list and organize the information. An easy way to organize the information is to create a flowchart incorporating the same information and using sticky notes to help organize the ideas.</p><p>The book also recommends to use the horizontal format when creating a web page. Also, it recommends using a display of 800x600 pixels. That way, the website can impact the majority of the visitors , whose monitors sites average 13 inch, which displays 800x600 pixels in a very nice way.</p><p>Good web designer concentrates on the navigation by organizing how the page navigates. Some ideas to help with the navagation design are navigation buttons, navigation bars, tabs, plain text links, fancy animated graphics, and more. Another idea could be using frames to help separate areas on the page. Frames can act independently, yet still interact with each other. </p><p>The designer should also consider repetition and consistency of the navigation elements from page to page. Good navigation system gives visitors a clue as to what page they are currently on.</p><p>Chapter 8 talks about the good and bad design. This chapter simply sums up the concepts talked about in this section of the book.</p><p>The bad web design looks crowded, confusing and boring, while a good design catches the attention of the viewer immediately and is easy to navigate and understand. It's good to notice that on a good web design a consistent feature of all the pages is that they all fit within the 800x600 pixels.</p> <div style='clear: both;'></div> </div> <div class='post-footer'> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'> <span class='post-author vcard'> Posted by <span class='fn' itemprop='author' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/Person'> <meta content='https://draft.blogger.com/profile/01772892997283924299' itemprop='url'/> <a class='g-profile' href='https://draft.blogger.com/profile/01772892997283924299' rel='author' title='author profile'> <span itemprop='name'>Alex Colon</span> </a> </span> </span> <span class='post-timestamp'> at <meta content='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/week-3-web-design-readings.html' itemprop='url'/> <a class='timestamp-link' href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/week-3-web-design-readings.html' rel='bookmark' title='permanent link'><abbr class='published' itemprop='datePublished' title='2010-06-28T08:18:00-07:00'>8:18 AM</abbr></a> </span> <span class='post-comment-link'> <a class='comment-link' href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/week-3-web-design-readings.html#comment-form' onclick=''> No comments: </a> </span> <span class='post-icons'> <span class='item-control blog-admin pid-878997978'> <a href='https://draft.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=1129555377859818339&postID=8851565092333454529&from=pencil' title='Edit Post'> <img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='https://resources.blogblog.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/> </a> </span> </span> <div class='post-share-buttons goog-inline-block'> </div> </div> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-2'> <span class='post-labels'> </span> </div> <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-3'> <span class='post-location'> </span> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div></div> <div class="date-outer"> <h2 class='date-header'><span>Tuesday, June 15, 2010</span></h2> <div class="date-posts"> <div class='post-outer'> <div class='post hentry uncustomized-post-template' itemprop='blogPost' itemscope='itemscope' itemtype='http://schema.org/BlogPosting'> <meta content='1129555377859818339' itemprop='blogId'/> <meta content='2919779236432971495' itemprop='postId'/> <a name='2919779236432971495'></a> <h3 class='post-title entry-title' itemprop='name'> <a href='http://alexandercollegelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/suprise-reaction.html'>What a way to end the day</a> </h3> <div class='post-header'> <div class='post-header-line-1'></div> </div> <div class='post-body entry-content' id='post-body-2919779236432971495' itemprop='description articleBody'> after fighting trying to stay up and finish some more work from school, I couldn't continue.
